Qualcomm, one the world’s largest fabless mobile chip manufacturers, is optimistic about the future and the potential benefits it will bring to consumers and businesses. Qualcomm CEO Talks Future of Metaverse
The recent metaverse push in software is starting to be seen by hardware companies as an opportunity to enter a new market. Qualcomm, one of the largest fabless chip manufacturers in the mobile industry, is focusing on the potential impact this new technology could have on the chip and electronic consumer markets in the not too distant future.
In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Cristiano Amon, CEO, spoke about the importance of the company’s commitment to the metaverse. He shared his thoughts on the future of metaverse.
It’s real. This is a huge opportunity. Over a decade ago, we began investing in fundamental technologies that allow for the merging of digital and physical spaces.
The metaverse, according to Amon, means that software will be needed for applications that provide the metaverse feel for different targets.
A new market
Qualcomm CEO Amon believes that there is a large market for wearables capable of providing metaverse augmentations to people on the move. Amon said:
There are many different technologies that we have developed to be able eventually to make a companion for your smartphone with fully immersive AR glasses that look exactly like normal glasses. This is a huge opportunity. It could be just as important as phones.
The company’s chips drive several devices that are used in metaverse applications. These include the Quest VR headsets manufactured by Meta and the new, updated version Hololens VR headset from Microsoft. There are people who oppose the use of wearables or augmented reality technologies in the metaverse.
Kutaragi believes that the metaverse must be more about the use of augmented reality technologies that allow users to experience the world as it is.
