To promote a cryptocurrency scam, the Twitter account of Mike Winkelmann (also known as BEEPLE) was hacked today. The hacker used his account to share a link to a fake Louis Vuitton website.
Harry.ETH, a security researcher at MetaMask/MyCrypto tweeted “Beeple’s Twitter account was compromised (ATO), to post a fake website to steal funds.”
The victims lost 35 ETH today. This was a total loss of approximately $71,000.
BEEPLE’s account was hacked in order to share a link to an “official raffle Entry.” Twitter users warned others not to click it, as some claimed their wallets were empty of Ethereum.
As The Block had previously reported Louis Vuitton asked BEEPLE to create non-fungible token art (NFT), as rewards for a raffle called Louis: The Game.
According to his Twitter page, BEEPLE has approximately 672,000 followers. BEEPLE sold an NFT at an auction last year for $69 million.
