One of the first companies to develop a mobile phone system for consumers was Nokia, which was one of the first companies to do that. These metaverse experiences will be powered using virtual reality headsets and augmented reality glasses. Users will be able to interact with many activities through these VR headsets. The industrial use of these headsets will be significant.
Nokia, the first manufacturer to develop a mobile phone, is now predicting that the mobile phone trend will end at the hands of the metaverse. Although phones will continue to be available, metaverse experiences will become the main form of communication for the second half decade.
Nokia believes that augmented reality devices still have a long way to go. However, Nokia is optimistic that there will be an increase in interest in these devices that will fuel this metaverse push. Nishant Batra, chief strategy officer and technology officer at Nokia, is positive about this. He declared:
We believe that the device will be replaced by a metaverse experience during the second half decade.
Batra stated that there are many factors that must align for this metaverse-based futurity to become a reality.
Nokia believes that the rise of digital-based worlds will depend on many factors. This includes the push by companies like Meta to make the metaverse a fad. The executive also stated that consumers are more concerned about forms and price than they are institutions. He explained:
Adoption by consumers and corporations will be crucial to the technology’s success. This will also depend on the availability and affordability of ergonomic, wirelessly connected VR/AR devices.
This is why the prices of popular metaverse headsets have risen in recent months. Meta raised the price of its base Headset from $400 to $400 in July. The company also launched a premium option, Quest Pro VR, earlier this month. It costs $1,500.
The company says that monetization of metaverse content will be difficult as there will be fragmentation. However, the company believes that monetization will depend on the growth in different uses for metaverse experiences. Because some use cases have already been explored, industrial adoption will be much easier.
Nokia believes that all of this connectivity will lead to security holes. The company is working with the metaverse to protect users.
